-Clay sculpture - 2023

This was my first time using heavily gorged clay. It felt so lovely to use and sculpt with, the idea for this piece came intuitively…I just made it with no thought, I just let go and created.

Coincidently I created this piece just before the felling of Sycamore Gap. Throughout my work, I bring in elements of nature..roots, leaves, trees and plants. Nature is so important and we must live alongside it, not against it.

When I look at this piece it makes me think about the weight of things we carry…traumas, emotions or even people and how they become rooted in our bodies. The stump and small leaves growing from the top symbolises hope, strength and determination. That we have everything within us to heal and that our experiences are a part of us but don’t have to own us.
